This remarkable 18th Century Russian Icon originally came from a three or four piece traveling bible. Traveling bibles were used for missionary work, military, or escaping the persecution from the authorities. During the 17th and 18th Century, master craftsman created these religious Icons by hand and sold them locally. This medal depicts Jesus, surrounded by divine light and supported by various Saints. The multicolored enamel is original. Chronicles and historical documents of the epoch give up hardly any information regarding the whereabouts of these work shops.
